Front Jacket
The Business of Venture Capital--now in its fourth edition--is a practical guide to how venture firms are designed, built, and run to return capital. The Business of Venture Capital cuts through industry jargon to show what it takes to break into the business, raise a fund, build a portfolio, manage risk, and deliver distributions in real markets.
Written by seasoned practitioners in the middle of the arena--Mahendra Ramsinghani and Tim Hsia--this edition reflects how venture capital is practiced today, and how it's evolving in an AI-driven environment.
Drawing on more than one hundred interviews with LPs, GPs, and operators, along with their own experience in Silicon Valley, combined with real-world case studies, the book walks through the full lifecycle of venture: from raising a first fund and building differentiated deal flow; to structuring investments, board roles and managing companies through volatility; to executing exits that generate actual returns. The focus is consistent throughout--what works in practice, not just in theory.
This edition offers insight into breaking into venture, a practical roadmap for emerging managers, a clear treatment of portfolio construction, and an unvarnished look at the challenges of the profession.
For emerging managers, institutional investors, founders, and professionals entering venture, this is a field manual for making better decisions--with discipline, clarity, and a grounded understanding of how the business really works.
