Lessons in financial investment have been broad ranging and often learned the hard way through mistakes and errors. These are told in first account stories followed by lessons learned to help other investors avoid expensive mistakes. Helen began her business life in door to door stationery sales as a 12 year old, followed by product and appliance demonstrations while still a teen, then networking sales of cosmetics, jewelry and plastic products during the evenings while her four children were still young. When the youngest was in second grade she became a cashier at an airport convenience store, and later served as short order cook in a small restaurant and confectionery. Then Helen became a Realtor specializing in new homes, moving between a number of builders of tract and custom homes and high rise condominiums, followed by a stint as a kitchen designer. A short stint as software marketer for her husband's PC accounting software company and managing a motel they bought, were ventures she shared with her husband. After her marriage of 30 years ended, finding that she loved management work and helping people she spent over twenty five years in condominium management, ten of those with her own successful mid-size management firm in Calgary that grew to employ 14. The sale of which enabled her to begin investing in properties and other vehicles. Helen served as treasurer of a kindergarten, as an active board member of the Multi-Family Council of HUDAC, as secretary of the Association of Condominium Managers of Alberta, as members of the Condominium Institute of Alberta, the Edmonton Apartment Association and Real Estate Investment Network. She contributed many articles on condominium management to the Calgary Herald newspaper and C.C.I. Insight magazine, as well as being one of the contributing writers of the CCI training manuals. She has been involved in many fields of investing, including stocks, land development co-ops, investment groups (later found to be ponzi schemes), and a variety of rental real estate ventures ranging from condos, to duplexes, apartment buildings and a rooming house. Her greatest loves are learning, sharing her wisdom and developing her spiritual awareness. Helen currently serves as vice-president and treasurer of a small charitable organization. She resides in Edmonton, Canada.
