After his A-levels, he completed his Pharm.D. at the Facultée des Sciences Pharmaceutiques et Biologiques, Université Rennes 2 (France) and earned his Ph.D. in Natural Products Chemistry at the Universiti Pertanian Malaysia. He has taught pharmacognosy at the University of Malaya, and elsewhere.
